Kate Middleton will be showing up at Wimbledon this weekend, but not when everyone thought she would.
Princess Kate, who’s been fighting cancer, had everyone guessing if she’d make it to the big tennis event. People were unsure if she’d feel well enough to sit in the royal box. Even though Kate didn’t give out a Wimbledon trophy on Saturday, Kensington Palace announced she’ll still be there for one of the most important games.
There were rumors that Kate, a huge tennis fan and backer of the All England Club, would make her first visit of the year on July 13 to see the women’s champion get crowned. Normally, she hands out the award every year since 2016. But now it’s clear: she’ll watch Novak Djokovic face off against Carlos Alcaraz at the men’s singles final on July 14.
Wimbledon organizers said they were giving Kate all the time she needed to decide. They even waited until Saturday morning to see if she’d feel okay to present awards for both finals over the weekend.
Fans often worry about their favorite stars when they’re unwell.
Debbie Jevans from All England Club told Telegraph Sport they hoped Kate could present trophies as their patron but that her health was more important. “We don’t know what we don’t know,” Debbie said. “We’re working with her and giving as much flexibility as possible.”

Kate hasn’t been out much this year except for Trooping the Colour earlier on. A friend told The Daily Beast that she really wants to go to Wimbledon in 2024 too.
“She loves being at Wimbledon,” a friend shared. “But with chemo, you have good days and bad days,” they added, saying it all depends on her treatment schedule. If Kate made it to Trooping the Colour, there’s hope she’ll make it to Wimbledon too! 🎾
