Frogmore Cottage is back in the news with more royal gossip swirling around.
Reports say Kate and William were once offered Frogmore Cottage, but they turned it down because it was too small for their family. Instead, they chose Adelaide Cottage nearby, which suits their needs better even though it doesn’t have space for live-in help.
Adelaide Cottage has four bedrooms, but the Waleses often stay at Anmer Hall in Sandringham too. That place is huge with 10 bedrooms, a tennis court, and a pool.
Interestingly enough, Frogmore later became home to Harry and Meghan after they got married in 2018. Queen Elizabeth gave them the property as a gift. Despite being one of the smaller homes on the Windsor estate, Harry wrote fondly about it in his memoir Spare, saying they loved it from day one.
“Frogmore was ready. We loved that place,” he shared. “From the first minute. It felt as if we were destined to live there.”
Originally constructed in 1801, Frogmore had ten bedrooms but was renovated before Harry and Meghan moved in. By then, it had five bedrooms plus an orangery and a veggie garden.

“We couldn’t wait to wake up every morning and take long walks through the gardens,” Harry said in Spare. “We even made friends with Steve, this super grumpy swan.”
Fans think it’s sad that such happy memories were left behind when Harry and Meghan stepped down as senior royals.
Eventually, King Charles asked them to leave Frogmore altogether. They got kicked out officially in 2023 according to ABC News.
Omid Scobie talked about this messy situation in his book Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival. He mentioned that forcing them out seemed like a harsh move from King Charles who might be struggling with his own feelings within such a rigid system. 🏡
