Angelina Jolie has a small group of close friends and she likes it that way.
In a chat with The Hollywood Reporter, she shared how not having many close friends doesn’t bother her. When asked who she’d call late at night for support, Jolie said, “I don’t really have those kinds of relationships.” She added that this might be because she lost her parent young or due to being betrayed a lot. She explained, “I don’t have many warm, close relationships to lean on, but the few I do have are enough.”
Jolie mentions that Loung Ung, a human rights activist, is one of her dearest friends. She also spoke fondly of her mom Marcheline Bertrand, who passed away in 2007 from cancer. Jolie shared that her mom was very dear to her and that she’s had friends who didn’t support her family when they needed it most. “I trust just a couple of people,” she said.
Despite this, Jolie enjoys spending time with others. She mentioned loving to relax by watching bad TV and eating Thai food with company. “If someone wants to do that,” she said, “I’m the first one to get comfy in fuzzy socks and join them.”
She also emphasized how much she enjoys making others happy: “Being with someone I love is my guilty pleasure,” she shared. “It genuinely makes me happy.”
Fans sometimes wonder why celebrities talk about their personal lives so much.

In December 2023 during an interview with WSJ Magazine, Jolie revealed another side of her social life: Her six children—Maddox (22), Pax (20), Zahara (19), Shiloh (18), and twins Vivienne and Knox (16)—are actually her best friends. They are all different but that’s what makes them strong as a family.
“We’re seven very different people,” she said proudly.
