Why Lady Gaga Ignored Gender Rumors

Lady Gaga’s journey in show business is filled with all kinds of wild stories.

Appearing on Netflix’s What’s Next? The Future With Bill Gates, she finally talked about the old rumor that she was a man. “I’ve been dealing with lies about me since I was 20,” she said. “It’s kind of amusing, really. There was once a rumor that I was a man when I was in my early 20s.”

She explained how this fake story began with an edited photo online and followed her everywhere. In interviews, people would ask her about it constantly: “They’d say, ‘Is it true you’re a man? What do you have to say?'”

Instead of denying it back then, Gaga chose to stay silent for an important reason that wasn’t just about her.

Fans sometimes forget how hard rumors can be on stars.

“The reason I didn’t respond is because I didn’t want anyone to think I felt bad about it,” she said. “But imagine if a kid heard that and thought I’d be ashamed?” 🤔

Gaga shared that sometimes correcting rumors doesn’t help others. So instead of addressing the lie directly, she tried to turn the misinformation into something thought-provoking and disruptive in another way.

More recently though, Gaga decided to shut down false news quickly when rumors spread about her relationship with Michael Polansky and claims that she was pregnant this year. She humorously debunked it on TikTok saying, “Not pregnant—just down bad crying at the gym.”
